A refined two-panel noren made from our finest-grade No.105 handwoven natural ramie Xia Bu.
More closely woven than No.75 ramie, this finer-grade cloth has a delicate surface, lightweight presence, and excellent natural-light transmission. Its semi-sheer weave softens the view between rooms while preserving daylight and airflow.
Ramie fiber is approximately twice as strong as linen. That strength gives No.105 cloth a distinctive balance: visually light and airy, yet crisp, firm, and highly structured. The fabric holds a clean architectural form rather than collapsing into a soft or loosely draped curtain.
Fine fiber lines, delicate slubs, and subtle changes in thread thickness remain visible across the surface, preserving the quiet character of the handwoven cloth.
Suggested Uses
Place it at a bedroom or guest-room entrance to create gentle privacy without reducing natural light.
Use it at a bathroom doorway, dressing area, closet, or wardrobe opening where ventilation and visual separation are equally important.

A short noren inspired by vineyard afternoons, cellar doors, and the unhurried pleasure of sharing a glass of wine.
Part of the Moment Series, the design pairs a playful wine-barrel figure with a composition of bottles and glasses. Arranged across two panels in a restrained, woodblock-inspired style, the familiar forms suggest harvest season, countryside tasting rooms, and the quiet hospitality of wine country.
The pattern is formed through a traditional katazome paste-resist process. The motifs preserve the lighter natural ramie, while the surrounding fabric is dyed in the selected botanical color.
Made from Handwoven Natural Ramie No.75 Xia Bu, the curtain has a breathable, semi-sheer weave with visible fiber lines and a dry, lightly rustic texture. Its naturally crisp structure gives the compact form a clear graphic presence without making the textile feel rigid or heavy.
The Half Noren as a Sign
Historically, short noren marked the entrances of Japanese shops, restaurants, and places of hospitality. A name, crest, or recognizable image helped visitors identify the establishment while the cloth formed a soft boundary between the street and the interior.
Its abbreviated length allowed the entrance to remain open and welcoming. The half noren could function as both a textile sign and an architectural marker—a format that translates naturally to contemporary vineyards, tasting rooms, wine shops, restaurants, and service counters.
Suggested Uses
Place it at the entrance to a vineyard tasting room, cellar door, wine shop, bottle shop, wine bar, or restaurant.
Use it above a tasting counter, service window, kitchen opening, pantry, dining-room doorway, or home bar.
It may also mark a winery gift shop, market booth, pop-up event, specialty retailer, or hospitality entrance.
When not used in an opening, it can be displayed as a wall banner, window layer, or decorative textile sign.
Installation
Each panel is finished with three top tabs, creating six tabs across the complete noren.
Thread a slim tension rod, bamboo pole, or wall-mounted rod through the tabs. Install it inside an opening for a restrained presentation or above the frame when greater visibility is preferred.

Gallnut creates softened charcoal and gray-brown tones, while Pu-erh tea introduces warmer tea-brown variation. The colors shift quietly from one fabric section to another, giving the composition depth without appearing overly decorative.
Individual pieces of ramie are composed and joined by hand. Their visible seams, changing proportions, and subtle tonal differences create a restrained geometric language that feels both textile-based and architectural.
The design draws from Japanese boro traditions, in which cloth was repeatedly pieced, patched, and repaired to extend its useful life. Historically associated with rural communities—including farming and fishing villages—boro textiles transformed practical necessity into layered surfaces marked by visible seams and improvised geometry.
This contemporary noren carries that spirit of resourcefulness and material respect without attempting to reproduce an antique boro textile.
When daylight passes through the open ramie weave, the patches become softly luminous while the seams remain dark and graphic. The resulting grid resembles an architectural elevation or hand-drawn plan, with each section transmitting light and botanical color differently.

Patchwork construction allows the proportions of the curtain to be adjusted more freely than a design made from one continuous width of cloth.
Fabric sections can be added, resized, or rearranged to accommodate virtually any requested width or length, including tall doorways, broad openings, storefronts, room dividers, and unusual architectural dimensions.
Each custom size receives an individual composition. The seams are not simply construction lines; they become part of the visual design.

A handmade noren featuring a beet motif painted by hand on natural ramie.
The design is created with plant-based pigment paste rather than printed color. Pagoda flower produces the muted green leaves, while sappanwood and madder form the earthy red beet. Because each motif is applied by hand, the texture of the ramie remains visible beneath the surface, allowing the finished piece to feel more like a small textile painting than a standard curtain.
The fabric is 100% natural ramie with a breathable, semi-sheer weave and a lightly rustic surface. It filters light, softens the view between spaces, and allows air to continue moving through the opening.
