A refined two-panel noren made from our finest-weave No.105 handwoven natural ramie Xia Bu.
More closely woven than No.75 ramie, No.105 has a finer surface, lighter visual presence, and excellent natural-light transmission. Its semi-sheer weave softens the view between spaces while preserving daylight and airflow.
Despite its delicate appearance, the cloth retains the naturally crisp and structured character of ramie. It holds a clean architectural form rather than collapsing into a soft or loosely draped curtain.
Fine fiber lines, delicate slubs, and subtle variations in thread thickness remain visible across the surface, preserving the quiet character of the handwoven cloth.
No.105 is woven on a narrower traditional loom, giving it a more refined and compact proportion than our standard-width No.75 and extra-wide No.95 fabrics.
Suggested Uses
Place it at a bedroom or guest-room entrance to create gentle privacy without reducing natural light.
Use it at a bathroom doorway, dressing area, closet, or wardrobe opening where ventilation and visual separation are equally important.
It is also suited to a kitchen, pantry, laundry room, home office, studio, meditation room, or hallway end.

A short noren inspired by vineyard afternoons, cellar doors, and the unhurried pleasure of sharing a glass of wine.
Part of the Moment Series, the design pairs a playful wine-barrel figure with a composition of bottles and glasses. Arranged across two panels in a restrained, woodblock-inspired style, the familiar forms suggest harvest season, countryside tasting rooms, and the quiet hospitality of wine country.
The pattern is formed through a traditional katazome paste-resist process. The motifs preserve the lighter natural ramie, while the surrounding fabric is dyed in the selected botanical color.
Made from Handwoven Natural Ramie No.75 Xia Bu, the curtain has a breathable, semi-sheer weave with visible fiber lines and a dry, lightly rustic texture. Its naturally crisp structure gives the compact form a clear graphic presence without making the textile feel rigid or heavy.
The Half Noren as a Sign
Historically, short noren marked the entrances of Japanese shops, restaurants, and places of hospitality. A name, crest, or recognizable image helped visitors identify the establishment while the cloth formed a soft boundary between the street and the interior.
Its abbreviated length allowed the entrance to remain open and welcoming. The half noren could function as both a textile sign and an architectural marker—a format that translates naturally to contemporary vineyards, tasting rooms, wine shops, restaurants, and service counters.
Suggested Uses
Place it at the entrance to a vineyard tasting room, cellar door, wine shop, bottle shop, wine bar, or restaurant.
Use it above a tasting counter, service window, kitchen opening, pantry, dining-room doorway, or home bar.
It may also mark a winery gift shop, market booth, pop-up event, specialty retailer, or hospitality entrance.
When not used in an opening, it can be displayed as a wall banner, window layer, or decorative textile sign.
Installation
Each panel is finished with three top tabs, creating six tabs across the complete noren.
Thread a slim tension rod, bamboo pole, or wall-mounted rod through the tabs. Install it inside an opening for a restrained presentation or above the frame when greater visibility is preferred.
Each top tab has an approximately 1.97-inch (5 cm) opening. Rod and installation hardware are not included.

Individual pieces of ramie are composed and joined by hand. Their visible seams, changing proportions, and subtle tonal differences create a restrained geometric language that feels both textile-based and architectural.
The design draws from Japanese boro traditions, in which cloth was repeatedly pieced, patched, and repaired to extend its useful life. Historically associated with rural communities, boro textiles transformed practical necessity into layered surfaces marked by visible seams and improvised geometry.
This contemporary noren carries that spirit of resourcefulness and material respect without attempting to reproduce an antique boro textile.
When daylight passes through the open ramie weave, the patches become softly luminous while the seams remain dark and graphic. The resulting grid resembles an architectural elevation or hand-drawn plan, with each section transmitting light and color differently.
The ramie remains breathable and semi-sheer, softening the view between spaces while preserving airflow. Its crisp natural structure gives the curtain definition without making it feel rigid or heavy.
Designed for Custom Openings
Patchwork construction allows the proportions of the curtain to be adjusted more freely than a design made from one continuous width of cloth.
Fabric sections can be added, resized, or rearranged to accommodate a wide range of requested widths and lengths, including tall doorways, broad openings, storefronts, room dividers, and unusual architectural dimensions.
Each custom size receives an individual composition. The seams are not simply construction lines; they become part of the visual design.

A hand-painted ramie noren inspired by the simple forms and colors of a kitchen garden.
The Hand-Painted Beet Noren features repeating beet motifs painted individually across two panels of handwoven natural ramie. Muted botanical green leaves sit above earthy red beet roots, creating a graphic composition that remains warm, quiet, and visibly handmade.
Unlike a printed textile, each motif is applied by hand using layered botanical color. Variations in brush pressure, pigment density, edges, and placement remain visible, allowing the texture of the ramie and the hand of the maker to stay present in every curtain.
Two background variations are available.
Color Variations
Natural White
The beet motif is painted directly onto the undyed natural ramie ground.
Its lighter background creates the strongest contrast between the botanical green leaves, earthy red beet, and the natural texture of the handwoven cloth.
When placed near a window or doorway, the semi-sheer weave allows daylight to move gently through the textile.
Ash Gray
The ramie ground is first given a muted botanical gray tone before the beet motifs are applied.
The darker ground gives the same motif a quieter, more aged character, with lower contrast and a more atmospheric relationship between the painted forms and the fabric beneath them.
Because the background is colored in small batches, subtle differences in depth and tone are expected from piece to piece.
Hand-Painted Botanical Color
Each beet motif is painted individually by hand rather than mechanically printed.
Muted botanical greens and earthy reds are layered across the irregular surface of the handwoven ramie, allowing portions of the weave to remain visible through the painted forms.
Slight differences in color depth, brush movement, shape, and motif edges are inherent to the process.
Handwoven Ramie
Each curtain is made from No.75 handwoven natural ramie Xia Bu, with a lightly rustic texture, visible slubs, and naturally irregular weave.
The fabric is breathable and semi-sheer, allowing air and daylight to pass through while softening the view between adjoining spaces.
Although lightweight, ramie has a naturally crisp, structured body rather than a loose drape, helping the two panels maintain a clean architectural presence when hanging.
Suggested Uses
The Beet Noren works especially well at kitchen and pantry entrances, breakfast nooks and dining areas, bedroom or dressing-room openings, bathroom entrances, closets and wardrobe openings, hallway transitions, studios and creative workspaces, and garden-facing interior doorways.
It can also create a distinctive entrance for cafés, bakeries, tea rooms, farm-to-table restaurants, boutiques, and market displays.
When not used as a doorway curtain, it can be displayed as a wall textile or lightweight room divider.
