Hand- Painted Fig Ramie Noren - Japanese Doorway Curtain

$189.00

A hand-painted noren bringing together the warmth of dyeing yam and the quiet depth of natural indigo.

The natural ramie ground is dyed with Dioscorea cirrhosa, producing a warm clay-brown surface with softened tea-colored variation. Fig motifs are then painted individually with natural indigo, creating a muted blue-gray contrast against the earthy ground.

Each motif is applied by hand rather than mechanically printed. Differences in brush movement, pigment density, and softened edges preserve the presence of the hand within the finished textile.

The ramie fabric has an open, breathable weave and a dry, lightly rustic texture. It filters light, softens the view between spaces, and maintains airflow. Its naturally crisp body allows the curtain to hold a clear, structured form rather than falling into a loose drape.

Suggested Uses

Place it at a kitchen or pantry entrance to bring a quiet botanical element into an everyday space.

Use it at a breakfast nook, dining-room opening, bedroom, bathroom entrance, dressing area, closet, laundry room, studio, or hallway end where a solid door may feel too enclosed.

It is also suited to a garden room, sunroom, café, bakery, restaurant, creative studio, or small retail space.

When not used in a doorway, it may be displayed as a wall textile or lightweight divider within an open room.

Installation

For a minimal, no-drill installation, place the noren inside the opening using a tension rod.

For wider coverage or a more architectural presentation, mount a curtain rod above or outside the doorway.

The flat straight rod pocket has an approximately 2-inch (5 cm) opening. Rod and installation hardware are not included.
