Fig Katazome Ramie Noren Curtain - Japanese Doorway Curtain

A handmade two-panel noren featuring a simple fig motif on handwoven natural ramie.

The motif is created through a traditional katazome paste-resist process, allowing the natural ramie to remain visible against the selected plant-dyed background.

Handwoven No.75 ramie has a breathable, semi-sheer weave and a naturally structured body. It filters light, allows airflow to move through the opening, and provides gentle privacy without creating a fully enclosed feeling.

Unlike a soft or loosely draped curtain, ramie holds a cleaner, more architectural form while retaining the irregular texture and movement of handwoven cloth.

Suggested Uses

Use it at a kitchen or pantry entrance to create a softer transition between cooking and living areas.

Place it outside a bathroom doorway to add visual privacy while maintaining ventilation.

Hang it at a bedroom, guest room, closet, dressing area, laundry room, utility room, home office, or studio entrance where a solid door feels too enclosed.

It can also soften the end of a hallway, partially conceal storage, divide an open-plan room, or create a welcoming entrance for a café, restaurant, retail shop, or treatment space.

When not used in a doorway, it may be displayed as a wall textile or decorative hanging.

Installation

For a minimal, no-drill installation, place the noren inside the doorway using a tension rod.

For wider coverage or a stronger architectural presence, install a curtain rod above or outside the opening.

5-Year-Aged Persimmon Tannin — Earth Brown · Limited Edition
A rich, weathered brown created with aged persimmon tannin. The dye gives the fabric a firmer, more substantial character and greater resistance to weathering than the other color options.

This version may be used in covered outdoor or semi-outdoor spaces, although direct rain, prolonged moisture, and extreme weather should be avoided. Availability is limited due to the small quantity of properly aged persimmon tannin.

Care

Professional dry clean only. Do not machine wash, tumble dry, scrub, or use chemical detergents. Remove surface dust gently and iron only on a low setting. Keep away from open flame and high heat.

For covered outdoor or semi-outdoor installation, protect the curtain from heavy rain, prolonged moisture, extreme sunlight, and direct weather exposure.

Handmade Character

Variations in dye depth, weave, texture, natural edges, motif outlines, and panel alignment are inherent to handwoven and plant-dyed ramie.

Because the fabric is woven on a traditional narrow loom, its side edges may show slight waviness and may not align with the rigid precision of machine-cut fabric. These characteristics reflect the natural rhythm of the weaving and dyeing process.
