A handmade fig motif noren doorway curtain made from handwoven natural ramie fabric and dyed with plant-based color.

This piece features a simple fig motif created through a traditional paste-resist dyeing process. The design is quiet, rustic, and beautifully imperfect, allowing the natural character of the cloth, dye, and handwork to remain visible.

Each color is created with botanical dye and carries its own tone and mood:

The fabric is handwoven ramie, a traditional natural fiber known for its strength, breathability, and crisp structure. Compared with linen, ramie has a stronger fiber body and a more architectural hand feel, allowing the noren to hang with a clean, structured drape rather than appearing overly soft or limp. Its open weave gently filters light and air while still providing visual privacy.

When hung in a doorway, this noren creates a soft boundary between spaces. It helps slow and soften airflow while maintaining an open and breathable feeling. It can be used for a doorway, bathroom entrance, hallway end, room entrance, closet opening, kitchen entrance, retail doorway, or as a decorative textile divider.

5-Year-Aged Persimmon Tannin — Earth Brown
A rich, weathered earth-brown tone created with aged persimmon tannin dye. The dye gives the ramie a firmer, more substantial texture and a slightly more weather-resistant character, making this option especially suitable for covered outdoor and semi-outdoor spaces.

Because properly aged persimmon tannin is available only in limited quantities, the Earth Brown color is offered as a limited-edition option.

Care

Keep away from open flame and high heat.

Professional dry clean only.

Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

Do not scrub, rub aggressively by hand, or use chemical detergents.

For daily care, a neutral disinfecting fabric spray may be used.

Iron gently on a low setting.

For outdoor or semi-outdoor installation, place the curtain in a covered area and avoid prolonged exposure to heavy rain, intense moisture, or extreme weather.

Because this piece is handmade, handwoven, plant-dyed, and created through a traditional paste-resist process, slight variations in color, weave, texture, motif placement, and paste-resist edges are expected. Each curtain is one of a kind.

The fabric is woven on a traditional narrow loom. Due to the natural rhythm and limitations of old-style hand weaving, the side edges may not be perfectly straight, and slight waviness or unevenness may occur. These are normal characteristics of authentic handwoven ramie textiles and should not be considered flaws.
