Botanical Moon Series — Hand-Painted Ramie Noren
A hand-painted noren series inspired by shifting moon forms and the layered colors of botanical pigments.
The Botanical Moon Series features oversized circular forms painted individually across handwoven natural ramie. Moving between the two panels, the circles appear like overlapping moons—balanced but irregular, graphic from a distance and visibly handmade up close.
Rather than being printed, each form is painted by hand using plant-based color pastes. Variations in brush pressure, pigment density, edges, overlap, and placement remain visible in the finished textile, allowing the hand of the maker to stay present in every piece.
Four botanical color compositions are available.
Color Variations
Blue Moon
Indigo + Butterfly Pea Flower
A cool composition of layered botanical blues, moving from muted indigo to softer blue-violet tones.
The combination creates subtle differences in depth and transparency across each painted moon, particularly when the textile is viewed against natural light.
Harvest Moon
Persimmon Tannin + Pagoda Flower & Indigo
Warm persimmon tones meet muted botanical green in a composition inspired by the colors of late summer and harvest season.
The contrast between clay-like orange and softened green gives Harvest Moon a warmer, earthier presence while retaining the restrained character of the series.
Lotus Moon
Grape Skin + Pagoda Flower
Muted grape tones are paired with soft botanical green to create a quieter, more atmospheric variation.
The colors remain subdued rather than saturated, allowing the handwoven ramie texture and natural ground to remain an important part of the composition.
Moss Moon
Persimmon Tannin + Sappanwood & Madder + Pagoda Flower & Indigo + Pu-erh Tea
The most layered palette within the Botanical Moon Series.
Warm persimmon, muted red-purple, mineral green, and tea-toned pigments overlap across the ramie surface, creating a composition reminiscent of weathered earth, moss, and naturally aged materials.
Because several botanical color pastes are used together, Moss Moon shows especially rich variation in tone and density from piece to piece.
Hand-Painted Botanical Color
Each circular form is painted individually by hand rather than mechanically printed.
Depending on the selected variation, the botanical color pastes used throughout the collection include indigo, butterfly pea flower, persimmon tannin, pagoda flower, grape skin, sappanwood, madder, and Pu-erh tea.
Subtle differences in color depth, brush movement, shape, overlap, and placement are natural results of the hand-painted process and make each piece unique.
Handwoven Ramie
Each noren is made from natural handwoven ramie Xia Bu, a breathable textile with a dry, lightly rustic texture and naturally visible slubs.
Its open weave allows daylight to pass gently through the cloth, creating partial visual privacy without completely closing one space from another.
Unlike softer drapery fabrics, ramie retains a naturally crisp, structured body, allowing the curtain and painted composition to maintain a clear architectural presence when hanging.
Suggested Uses
Use the Botanical Moon Noren at a:
kitchen or pantry entrance
bedroom or dressing area
bathroom entrance
closet or wardrobe opening
hallway or transition space
studio or creative workspace
café, boutique, gallery, or hospitality interior
The oversized circular composition also allows the noren to work as a wall textile or lightweight room divider when not installed in a doorway.
Installation
For a minimal, no-drill installation, hang the noren inside the doorway using a tension rod.
For wider coverage or a stronger architectural presentation, install a bamboo, wood, or metal rod above or outside the opening.
The standard flat rod pocket has an approximately 2-inch (5 cm) opening.
Rod and installation hardware are not included.

Care — Important for Hand-Painted Textiles
Professional dry clean only.
Because the botanical colors are applied individually by hand, this textile requires more careful handling than a standard dyed fabric.
Do not allow the painted surface to come into contact with water.
Do not hand wash
Do not machine wash
Do not soak
Do not spot-clean with water
Do not rub or scrub the painted areas by hand
Do not wring or twist the fabric
Do not tumble dry
Do not use bleach or chemical detergents
Do not use alcohol, disinfectant sprays, or cleaning sprays on the fabric
For routine care, gently remove loose surface dust without rubbing the painted areas.
If ironing is necessary, use a low temperature from the reverse side only, avoiding direct heat on the painted surface.
Keep away from open flame, excessive heat, and prolonged exposure to moisture.
Handmade Character
Every Botanical Moon Noren is individually painted and handwoven.
Differences in circle shape, brush movement, pigment density, overlap, weave, natural edges, and panel alignment are inherent to the handmade process rather than defects.
Because the textile is painted by hand, no two Botanical Moon Norens will be exactly alike.
