Pumpkin Katazome Ramie Noren Curtain

$159.00

A handmade pumpkin motif noren doorway curtain made from handwoven natural ramie fabric and dyed with plant-based color.

This piece is inspired by quiet harvest season, small pumpkin farms, autumn markets, and the warm feeling of gathering at home around Thanksgiving. The pumpkin motif brings a gentle seasonal charm to the doorway without feeling overly decorative, making it suitable for both everyday use and fall styling.

The motif is created through a traditional Katazome paste-resist dyeing process. A rice-based resist paste is carefully applied over the pumpkin pattern before the fabric is dipped, dyed, and dried. After the dyeing process is complete, the paste is removed by hand, revealing the soft light pumpkin motif against the warm plant-dyed ground.

This piece is available in one plant-dyed color:

Dyeing Yam / Dioscorea cirrhosa — Clay Brown

Clay Brown is a warm earthy brown tone created with dyeing yam. It has a natural, rustic warmth that pairs beautifully with wood, stone, linen, vintage furniture, and quiet wabi-sabi interiors.

The fabric is handwoven ramie, also known as Xia Bu, a traditional natural textile known for its strength, breathability, and crisp structure. Ramie fiber has a stronger body than linen, giving the noren a more structured, architectural drape rather than a soft, collapsed look. The open weave allows light and air to pass through gently while still creating a sense of privacy and separation.

You may notice uneven weave, slubs, subtle texture variation, and small irregularities on the fabric surface. These are part of the handmade character of handwoven ramie textile and should not be considered flaws.

When hung in a doorway, this noren works as a soft divider between spaces. It helps slow and soften airflow while remaining breathable. It can also gently filter light and offer visual privacy without fully closing off the room.

This piece can be used for a doorway, bathroom door, hallway end, room entrance, closet opening, kitchen entrance, pantry doorway, covered porch, retail doorway, farmstand display, or as a decorative textile layer in the home. Its pumpkin motif and warm clay-brown color bring a calm, rustic, harvest-inspired feeling to the space.

The fabric is woven on a traditional narrow loom. Due to the limitations and natural rhythm of old-style hand weaving, the side edges may not be perfectly straight, and slight waviness or unevenness along the edges can occur. These are normal characteristics of handmade ramie textile and should not be considered flaws.

For outdoor or semi-outdoor use, we recommend placing it in a covered or partially protected area to reduce long-term exposure to rain, moisture, and harsh sunlight.
